                SRI LANKAN EDUCATION SYSTEM Sri Lanka's education structure is divided into five parts:  primary, junior secondary, senior secondary, collegiate, and tertiary . Primary education lasts five years (Grade 1 to Grade 5) and at the end of this period, the students may elect to write a national exam called the Scholarship exam. This exam allows students with exceptional skills to move on to better schools. Basically, most schools are government-run and free. National Schools which are considered the better schools are those funded directly by the Ministry of Education while the Provincial schools are run by local governments.
